This overcomes the build failure on Solaris where it complains about
incompatible types of ? operands.

Some slight grammar changes.

This change applies to the Memfile backend and is intended to significantly
improve its performance.

This had a quick review via jabber.

They were missing in some files that were longer than a few lines.
Not real important, but to be consistent.

This change should seriously rise the performance of the server as the
server seem to spend a lot of time executing the validate function.

When directly logging uint8_t values they are rather printed as char,
not the integer value within the range of 0..255. Converting them to
integer guarantees that they are printed as numbers.

This is a workaround for the warnings on Debian6: "array subscript is
above array bounds".
