the actual bit position isn't a big deal right now, but the intent would be
a bit clearer than an odd intermediate position (and, in fact, using the
MSB was the original intent; the previous value was a typo)

it effectively makes this branch with trac517 (which has been merged to
master since then).  it will help merge this branch to master.

also resolved trivial conflicts in src/lib/datasrc/tests/rbtree_unittest.cc.

also removed an unused initialization as a piggybacked cleanup.

for the next step of wildcard work, extended the notion of callback to
generic "node flags".  callback specific interfaces were replaced with
flag manipulation methods.

so that the main method will have a readable size.  no behavior change.

make sure a separate RBTree level exists for the wildcard and its
"wildcarding (parent)" names.
reject loading unsupported RR types with wildcard.

the subsequent tests will be invalidated once we merge #507, but
for the purpose of this ticket it should work.

 - consolidated the test RR definition in a sequence of RRs
 - eliminated variables for RR names

test semantics should be intact.

bash isn't available on all platforms by default.  we should be conservative.
